Wondering What The Junior League Is All About?
Mission Statement
The Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Junior Leagues reach out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to volunteerism.
The Junior League of Tacoma is an organization of women committed to Tacoma. For 86 years, we have provided educational programs, conducted supply drives, hosted television and radio shows, purchased hospital beds, granted scholarships, made meals, and in general, supported the Tacoma community. During the 2007-2008 year, the Junior League of Tacoma (JLT) will continue to work within our community through our partner elementary school to impact the lives of children and their families, to support the women who seek shelter at Faith Homes, and to distribute more than $3,000 in college scholarships to girls in Pierce County.
We will do this through income generated from our Second Closet thrift shop, located at 1003 Pacific Avenue, annual fund contributions from our active and sustaining members, as well as two outstanding fundraisers – Bib 'n Bid and A Cook's Tour. To supplement our income, we are launching a corporate sponsorship program. This will allow businesses to partner with JLT and impact the community. I invite each of you viewing this letter to make a call to our office or browse through our site to see how you can join us in making an impact in our community today.
